Following the concerted efforts from many groups, Auckland Council’s development contributions policy changed on 1st June.
Good news: DCs are now lower in areas like Flat Bush and Drury by around $10,000
The opportunity: If you have significant development contributions under the old policy, a reassessment is likely to be worth progressing
Key points:
✅ Reassessment requires a new resource/building consent application (this will be a delay)
✅ Recent example: a large subdivision leading to a savings of $1 million
Worth considering if potential savings are greater than the costs, hence, viable only for some developments.
Check in with your planner to see if it is worth your while – unlikely for most smaller back-yard developments.
I suspect that the really good planners and project managers will be notifying their Clients of this as a ‘value-add’.
