A number that does not look right sends us back to the source document every time. That is what SANZ does with development contributions, connection charges and the rest of it.
In this short video I talk through why SANZ exists and what it actually does. We are a not for profit, and we are now well over 16,000 people. When Auckland Council’s long term plan numbers came out in 2025, one of my projects in Tamaki was facing a jump in development contributions from around $20,000 to $120,000. We brought in a King’s Counsel and an urban economist, made the case that the council’s numbers were misleading, and won.
One developer on their own cannot take on Auckland Council, Vector or Watercare. Sixteen thousand of us, going back to source documents together, can.
